Welcome to Miss Garrett's Class!

This is a 90 minute daily pull out program to support students in grades K-2. Each student receives small group and 1:1 differentiated instruction to support their individual learning goals. Instructional support is provided with the use of a plethora of multi modality teacher created materials, as well as the utilization of the Starfall Reading and Math program. I have adapted several components of the technology based program to support individual reading levels.

I am in my third decade of teaching elementary students. I am certified in both general and special education. Through the years, I have taught all grade levels from K-6 in various capacities. Whatever grade level I am teaching is my favorite! I still love to teach as much as I did when I started!! Being a part of a child's learning journey is truly the most gratifying and rewarding work. Experiencing the moment when the clouds clear and that beautiful smile looks up at me when a student finally understands a concept that they have been struggling with is like no other.

During these uncertain times as we all navigate new territory with distance learning, know that I am thinking of all of you and wishing your families the best of health.

PHONICS

Each of you have learned or are in the process of learning the following phonics skills. Continue reviewing, reading and writing them! Make games, sing songs, have fun with them!

ALPHABET letter SOUNDS: Practice the sounds that each letter makes. Remember our game: "I'm thinking of a letter and my letter says__________, can you guess my letter?"

CVC Words: Consonant-Vowel-Consonant patterned words (map, pen, cat, dog, etc.)

RHYMING: Words that rhyme end in the same sound (cat-mat, pet-set, pig-wig, top-hop, bug-rug)

DIGRAPHS: ch, ph, sh, th, wh

SILENT /e/ Words: The magic /e/ at the end of the word makes the vowel sound long! (time, plane, robe, etc.)
