Helpful Tips
- Please make sure your child is continuing to practice independently reading each night. This will help them continue to grow as readers!
- Please make sure your child is practicing multiplication & division facts as well as our other math skills each night. They can practice using flash cards, their multiplication booklets, or can practice the skills on IXL! Daily practice will benefit your child to continue to improve their math skills in third grade!
- Please read and sign the reading log in your child's homework packet each night for assignments and upcoming assessments. Please check that your child has completed their homework each night. You may sign off on the front sheet of their homework packet.
Weekly Homework
There will be homework on Monday-Thursday each week. Homework will be assigned in a packet that returns to school with your child each day. It will consist of a math worksheet, ELA worksheet, and reading log practice. Each child is expected to read at least 15 minutes per night and reading should be logged on their reading log. Please check your child's homework packet to make sure they have completed all of their assignments. Also, it is strongly encouraged that each child is studying and practicing their math multiplication and division facts as well as our other math skills daily! Thank you!

Math
Third grade math is so much fun! We will learn all about place value, rounding, 3 digit addition and subtraction. We will learn many different strategies including equal groups, arrays, and skip counting to help us multiply and divide. We will learn all about fractions and how to identify, compare, and find equivalent fractions! We have so many topics to learn this year in math! We are going to become fluent mathematicians!
Reading
This year we will learn many multiple reading strategies to make us become better readers. We will practice predicting, inferring, making connections, analyzing story structure, and questioning when reading. We will learn all about informational texts and recognizing different text features! We will practice and apply these skills to our own independent reading books that are checked out from our classroom library. We will also read books online on RAZ Kids. It is great practice to read these books and take the comprehension quizzes to practice our skills! If we continue to read daily, we will become better readers and improve our fluency when reading! We will continue to practice these skills and learn new ones in our upcoming units this year!
Writing
We LOVE to write! In our personal narrative unit, we will learn how to include dialogue, sensory details, and transition words. We will learn how to hook our reader and write reflective endings. We will learn how to write baby literary essays using text evidence. We will learn to analyze different texts and write a claim. Then, we will use text evidence to prove our claim! In our informational writing unit, we will create our own informational books and brochures and learn to research different topics! We will write persuasive speeches to convince readers about a topic we feel strongly about! It is so much fun to be creative writers!
Science/ Social Studies
We will learn so many interesting things in Social Studies and Science this year! We will begin the year with our Geography & Weather/Climate Unit. We will learn about the different governments and different cultures around the world. We will learn about globalization/global trade in Social Studies. In Science, we will learn all about weather and climate, natural disasters, and environmental impacts. We will learn about life cycles, animal adaptations, and much more!
