We will be mathematicians in Class 3R!    This year we will be reviewing  our addition and subtraction facts  and learning how to add and subtract three digit numbers.    You will learn the concept of multiplication and division!  Get ready to learn your multiplication and division facts through songs, raps, videos, games  and hands on activities.   We will review place value and rounding as well.   In the new year, you will also learn all about fractions- how to identify them, compare them and make them equivalent.  You will also learn about geometry , measurement and learn how to solve multi-step word problems.   We have so many topics to learn in Math so get ready to learn!

This year you will continue to become a better reader.  You will learn many reading strategies as you practice predicting, inferring, making connections, analyzing story structures and questioning when reading.  We will read both fiction and nonfiction.  You will learn to be detectives and find text evidence to answer comprehension questions.   You will apply the reading strategies when we read whole group , small group and independently.   You will get a chance to take out books from our classroom library every night .  It is important to read every night in 3rd grade for 15 to 20 minutes.   If you continue to read daily, you will become a better reader this year!  I am excited to share my many books and read you many stories this year!   I know that you will love reading this year!   

You will become writers this year and develop a love for Writing!   We will start our year off with writing personal narratives.  You will learn to include dialogue, sensory details and zoom in a small moment.  Then,  you will learn how to write a baby literary essay with four to five paragraphs.  You will learn about topic sentences and concluding sentences.   We will learn to analyze different texts and use text evidence to write  the baby literary essays.   In our informational unit, we will create our own expert books through our own knowledge and through research.   Finally, we will write persuasive speeches to convince readers about a topic that you feel strongly about!  Get ready to get your brains and pencils in motion!   

We will be learning so many interesting things in Social Studies and Science  this year!  We will begin the year with our Geography unit in Social Studies followed by a Science unit on Weather and Climate.   We will learn about the different governments and different cultures as well.   We will also learn about globalization and global trade in Social Studies.  In Science, you will learn about weather and climate, natural disasters and environmental impact.  We will end the year off learning about life cycles, animal adaptations and much more!   Learning about our world will be very interesting this year!
